Town Council approves $24.6 million default budget for fiscal year 2027

NH HOOKSETT — Hooksett Town Council approves $24.6 million default budget for fiscal year 2026-27 after voters rejected the proposed $25.7 million package in March. The council voted 4-1 to accept the default budget reflecting $1,056,465 in reductions across town operations, library, and wastewater services; Chair Tsantoulis secured unanimous support for restoring $3,500 to continue the over-80s luncheon program for seniors using potential savings from an open Town Engineer position. Public Works absorbed $310,279 in cuts including suspension of line striping and guardrail replacement; the Police Department froze one officer position for $144,056 in savings; and the Fire Department froze one firefighter position saving $231,234.
Councilor David Smith cast the lone vote against the budget.
